Pupils at Pencaitland Primary School have published their first children’s fiction book.

As part of World Book Day in March and at the suggestion of teacher Emma Kerr, local writer Sheila Averbuch worked with 36 children from the school’s nine classes to develop a “whole school” story, creating characters and cliff-hanger endings.

“Pirate Families”, a 6,000-word, 51 page book, was launched at the school last Friday.
