East Lothian has scooped £36 million in National Lottery proceeds in the last 20 years, official figures show.

More than 850 local projects have benefited from cash raised by 70 per cent of the UK adult population who buy tickets.

These include £8 million towards the acquisition and restoration of Newhailes, near Musselburgh, more than £1.8 million towards the Scottish Seabird Centre at North Berwick and more than £1.3 million towards the development plan for the National Museum of Flight at East Fortune.

Established in 1994, the National Lottery has provided more than £2.5 billion of support for more than 50,000 good causes in Scotland, part of the £31 billion UK pot.
