East Lothian Council joined local authorities, community groups and charities across the British Isles in celebrating Commonwealth Day on March 10.

Young people were invited to see the Commonwealth flag being raised above John Muir House in Haddington and to hear the Provost, Councillor Ludovic Broun-Lindsay, read out a specially written Commonwealth Affirmation and a message from Her Majesty The Queen.

Charity teams marked the day by taking Commonwealth flags to the top of the UK’s four highest national peaks and the emblem was also flown in the four capital cities and at the most distant points on the country’s land mass.
