World record for Mary
Mary Anderson's prodigious record in the Drug Free World Powerlifting Championships continued at the 2009 World Championships at Milton Keynes when she returned to her home in Tranent with five more titles and a new world record.
This event was the combined category which entails lifters combining the scores of each of the three disciplines, the Squat; Press; and Dead Lift.
Nearly 160 competitors came from over 20 different countries including the European Eastern bloc and Russia.
Mary, was already the defending world champion for the women's 80kg class and came away with gold medals in the overall Women's equipped and unequipped combined category as well as the Women's 'Masters' category for women over 40 years and to cap a great weekend she was awarded the Best Open Lifter Award for all the Women's groups.

Her new world record was in the Combined Equipped category where her three lifts consisted of a squat of 195kgs a press of 107.5 kgs and a dead lift of 213 kgs totalling 515.5kgs. (That is the equivalent of lifting five people over 13 stone each.)
A delighted Mary and her coach John Wynne were delighted with her efforts and thanked East Lothian Council for their sponsorship.
However, Mary still has to get up at 4am each morning to go to her job as manager of MacDonalds at Meadowbank as this is the only way she can fund herself — a true tribute to the concept of the amateur sportsperson.
Despite her many championship titles and world records she still has to begin her qualifications for next year by competing in the Scottish and then British championships which start in February.
Not much time for resting from her heavy training schedule and certainly no consumption of the products she makes on a daily basis.
