Winter jumps season starts at Musselbuurgh

MUSselburgh’s winter jumps season resumes today (Friday) with the first race timed for 12.10pm, writes John Budden.

The Border Safeguard conditional jockeys hurdle which opens the card provides young Stephen Mulqueen with the chance to atone for his unfortunate “ unseat” at the last meeting. Since then Mulqueen and mount Overpriced have scored at Wetherby and with Maurice Barnes remaining in excellent form, young Stephen can gain a further success for the Cumbrian trainer on I’ll Be Frank, an encouraging fourth in a similar contest at Newcastle a fortnight ago.

Weatherbys Printing, the firm responsible for producing the Musselburgh racecards, are sponsoring the 2m handicap chase at 2.20 The £12,000 feature event has attracted a competitive turnout including last season’s multiple course winner Red Tamber and the Lamgholm trained Civil Unrest who landed a touch at Musselburgh’s first jumps meeting of the winter campaign.
