Victory gives East Lothian bowlers a premier league boost

Survival in the Scottish Premier League is now the key ambition for the gent’s side from East Lothian IBC this season and that campaign mission received a huge boost with last Saturday’s commanding 22 shot victory (91-69) over fellow struggler’s Bainfield at Meadowmill stadium.

East Lothian doubled their points tally from two to four and the major significance of their triumph is that it moves them up to third position in the highly competitive A section. Hopes now are that the victory will kick start the star studded garden county side’s season and see them move away from the relegation zone.

Comprehensive wins on two rinks – skipped by Derek Oliver and Billy Mellors – carried the day for East Lothian but the visitors did inflict painful defeats on the rinks skipped by Scott Kennedy and Willie Wood MBE.

Oliver and his front-three of Ewan Fallen, Dougie Berwick and team captain Graham Robertson all produced majestic performances to record a spectacular 29-6 win over Colin Hutchison. Chief support came from an in-form Mellors as he skipped Colin Cook, Alan Young and Andrew Jeffrey to a 19-13 win over Gavin Smith.

Kennedy along with Lessel Middler, Gary Darling and Jamie Higgins went down 15-10 against Paul O’Donnell while Jamie Gordon, Stevie Thomson, Mark Johnston and Wood were always against the collar in a 20-12 defeat to Robert Marshall.
