A Scottish captain who once had a hole-in-one is aiming to top that by helping North Berwick Golf Club win a prestigious national PGA title.

Jim Shearer and head PGA professional Martyn Huish will be flying the flag for the famous links in The Lombard Challenge, a PGA Pro-Captain Tournament in Turkey.

The pair will go up against nine other clubs from across the UK in the £25,000 grand final being staged at Antalya Golf Club’s PGA Sultan course from November 30 to December 1 – the venue recently hosted the World Golf Finals.

For Shearer (55), head of data management for Scottish Widows, the prospect of competing in the final is another highlight to rank alongside a hole-in-one at Qualicum Beach Golf Course on Vancouver Island as a 16-year-old in 1973.

“Reaching the final certainly rivals the hole-in-one and it has been the talk of the club ever since we got there,” he said.“This has been a busy year for me as North Berwick captain but this is a great way to round it off.”
