You’re at Loretto School in Musselburgh, watching hockey on their new astroturf. So, why does it feel as if you’re at the London Olympics?

Like the pitch at the Riverside Stadium, the Loretto hockey astroturf is a deep, deep blue.

World-class hockey is played on artificial turf, but usually coloured green. The reason for the blue is that the blue surface makes the bright ball easier for spectators to see.

Loretto School’s new astroturf, supplied by England Hockey approved supplier, ‘Nottssport’, is the only blue surface outside the London Olympics venue.

The high-quality sand-dressed surface is suitable for international matches and was officially opened by hockey legend Evlyn Raistrick, former chairman of the Scottish Hockey Union and Loretto hockey coach.
