A NEW section of hybrid turf and fibresand track installed at Musselburgh Racecourse’s jump track has won the approval of officials and jockeys.

The composite track came through with flying colours at Musselburgh’s first National Hunt meeting of the season last month and has won universal approval.

Chris Dennis, the British Horseracing Authority’s Inspector of Courses, praised Musselburgh for its foresight: “This is a welcome addition to improving the safety of both jockeys and horses and the first of its kind at a UK racecourse. Musselburgh are to be congratulated in leading the way on this important issue.”

Bill Farnsworth, general manager at Musselburgh Racecourse, said: ““We are delighted with the results so far and have received a huge amount of encouragement from across the racing industry. If it prevents one fall to a horse and jockey with any potential injury that brings, then the investment will be well worth it.”
