Spanish sighs for badminton officer Christine

Dan Travers won men's singles gold and mixed doubles silver at the BWF World Seniors at Punta Umbria in Spain.

Former Scotland internationalist Travers and Badmintonscotland president Christine Black — East Lothian's badminton development officer — were one win away from retaining their 50+ mixed title, losing a close final to Jesper Helledie of Denmark and Svetlana Zilberman Beliasov of Israel 19-21 21-16 21-18.

Black missed out in the semi-finals of the 50+ women's singles when she went down to German top seed Heidi Bender 21-8 21-12.

She also lost in the women's doubles semi-finals when she and Marjan Ridder, the top seeds, lost to eventual winners and fourth seeds Sugako Morita and Kimiko Tsuchiya 17-21 21-12 21-17.
