Senior bowlers progress in Scottish League Cup

East Lothian’s Alex ‘Tattie’ Marshall along with ex garden county teammate Paul Foster are bang on course to make a successful defence of their World Indoor Pairs Championship crown after they made it through to the final following a nerve jangling tie-break victory over the strong English pairing of Andy Thomson and Mark Royal in last Monday’s semi final action.

The ‘auld yins’ finished equal on points with Balbardie but thanks to a massive shot margin advantage East Lothian won the section and were due to tackle East A section winners Perth in the quarter-final action at West Lothian IBC on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, there was competitive senior bowling action at Meadowmill stadium as the opening week of qualifying matches in the Jock Brodie Senior Challenge Cup were staged. The popular tournament for the ‘auld yins’ is now into its 14th year and again it has attracted a healthy total of 12 teams from the length and breadth of Scotland with the host club (East Lothian) entering two sides (A & B) into the draw.

For the 11th successive year Norman T Craig from Haddington has kindly agreed to sponsor the tournament and organisers received further good news when Co-operative Funeral Care also indicated they will give the tournament financial backing for an eighth successive year.
