Stoneyhill Primary pupil Rachel Cameron and Alastair Campbell from Dunbar Primary, were both winners at the East Lothian Primary Badminton Championships held on at North Berwick Sports Centre.

In the girls’ singles Rachel lived up to her number one seeding by reaching the final where she was up against Kirsty Morrison. Kirsty reached the final after defeating second seed Francesca Lang (George Heriots) 21/14 but Rachel was just too strong and consistent in the final and won her first primary singles title 21/13.

In the boys’ singles there was a record entry of 64 competitors from all over East Lothian.

The seeding went to plan with 3/4 seed James Guckian (Law Primary) up against top seed Alastair Campbell (Dunbar Primary) and Ross McFarlane (Law Primary) against second seed John Arbuckle.

Both semi finals were very closely contested with Campbell winning 21/18 and Arbuckle having been match point down to Mcfarlane pulled through to win 24/22.

The final was another close encounter with Campbell winning 21/19.

East Lothian Badminton development officer Christine Black would like to thank parents, coaches and all secondary school pupils who assisted throughout the event.
