Musselburgh fall just short of glory

Lasswade v Musselburgh RFC

Lasswade v Musselburgh RFC

After the usual unscheduled, almost compulsory winter break, hostilities were resumed as Musselburgh made the short trip to Lasswade for what proved to be an eventful encounter.

On a nippy afternoon the wind was blowing down the park as Burgh kicked off with it in their favour.

The first scrum of the match produced a heavy grunt from the visiting pack and the ball was won against the head, before a penalty was squeezed out of Lasswade and Dave O’Hagan did the needful for 0-3. Burgh’s bright start was further bolstered by fine driving runs by Andrew Cook and Neil McNairn. An early injury required Ian Wilson to replace Mark Billingham in the Lasswade front row as a series of penalties stemmed the tide for the home side before Burgh scored a fine try, the ball being shipped wide to Andrew Cook who used his pace to reach the corner for a fine unconverted try to stretch Burgh’s lead to 0-8.
