Motocross champ Billy awaits Duns test

Champion motocross rider Billy Mackenzie from Longniddry will soon be competing near his East Lothian home.

For the very first time in its eight year history the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship, recognised as one of the best domestic motocross series in the world, will be holding one of it's eight Rounds inScotland.

The spectacular motocross track at Duns, Berwickshire, will play host to the penultimate round of the Championship on August 23 and several of the top riders in the series will be relishing the prospect of delivering the excitement to the fans on home soil.

Last season Scottish riders were totally dominant in both classes and the 2008 Championship titles went to riders from north of the border.

However, this season has been very different for some and the opportunity to restart their season in front of loyal fans will be welcomed.

Currently

The 2007 and 2008 MX1 Maxxis ACU British Motocross Champion, Billy Mackenzie, from Longniddry, was in a class of his own last season, winning 18 out of 24 races he entered and despite not travelling to one round because of an injury received in the World Championship, he successfully retained the title after Race 1 of the Final Round.

This season things haven't gone well in the British Championship and he currently finds himself in fourth position, 42 points behind the Championship leader.

Although at the recent Spanish Grand Prix he was back to his best, leading the first 'Moto' until T-boned by another rider, unable to restart the machine quickly he was outside of the top 20 by the time he got going again, but a fightback saw him finally finishing 11th.

The second race was much better when he lead the Grand Prix until lap 11, eventually crossing the line 5th, which lifted him to 14th in the World Championship standings.

Now his cousin, Bryan MacKenzie from Longniddry, has been drafted into the CAS squad.
