Last minute try puts Preston Lodge on back foot
A last minute try allowed North Berwick to snatch the points in the latest East Lothian derby against Preston Lodge at Recreation Park on Saturday when their pace and determination caught the visitors on the hop.
PL had the better of the early exchanges thanks to a couple of penalties which were used by Graeme Patterson to get the ball into touch on five metres. The North Berwick defence did a great job to defend the line out but PL showed great patience to keep recycling the ball until eventually Warner Easton passed out to Andrew Clark and the experienced stand off gave a quick show and go before stepping between the defenders to score an easy try under the posts. He added the conversion himself and PL were ahead 0-7 after only five minutes.
From the restart, North Berwick found good field position inside PL’s 22 and the pack did well to secure the ball. However, it was the threequarter line that would cause plenty of problems for the PL defence and when centre Callum Mark received the ball, he passed it on quickly before looping round to get it back while running a great angle that allowed him to cut right through the PL defence to score. Liam West’s conversion levelled things up at 7-7.
