Invite to take part in annual Edinburgh to North Berwick race

Runners with a need for speed are being encouraged to sign-up for the Edinburgh to North Berwick Road Race on Saturday May 2, organised by East Lothian Council.

The 20-mile route will start in Portobello and follow the coast to Musselburgh, pass the Race Course and continue along the B1348 to Dirleton, through the village and then on to North Berwick.

The finish line is on the town's High Street 28 metres before the Old Post Office.

Showers and changing facilities are available at North Berwick Sports Centre, where the presentation of prizes will take place at 3pm.

Registration will take place at Meadowbank Sports Centre and competitors will then be transported to the official start line at Portobello Promenade in time to hear the starter's pistol sound at 11am.

Entries are invited in seven categories from ladies 18+ to males 60+ but competitors will have to be fast to secure a space as the race is limited to 200 places on a first come, first served basis.

Pre-entries are welcomed or runners can register on the day between 9am and 10am (no entries will be accepted after 10am).

Entry to the race is not dependent on membership of a running club, as witnessed by the 2008 fastest male Hugh McInnes who completed the course in 2 hours 14 minutes and 46 seconds. Fiona Matheson (Scottish Vets) was fastest female finishing in 2 hours 23 minutes and 20 seconds while Dunbar Running Club was the fastest team.

The roads will remain open to traffic during the race with signage displayed along the route to alert drivers to the race.

Competitors who wish to pre-enter the race should contact Kirsty Preston, Physical Activity and Recreation Officer: 01875 824011 or kpreston@eastlothian.gov.uk
