Gold medal joy as Shona takes titles

Longniddry's Shona Whillans lived up to her top seeding in the Bank of Scotland girls' U-11s singles by taking the title in emphatic style.

It was only in the final that she was put under any pressure before beating Rothesay's Sarah Sidebottom 21-13 to improve on her runners-up spot last year.

And Shona was just as dominant in the doubles where she and Longniddry partner Basia Grodynska outplayed Lauren Flynn and Catriona Holley 21-4 in the semi finals before beating Edinburgh duo Lily Farnood and Rachel Lu 21-10 in the final.

More than 60 players from all over Scotland entered Saturday's last Junior National Championships of the season and the tournament featured a total of 235 matches in deciding the four titles.
