Frosty start for sailing event

Frostbite Race, East Lothian Yacht Club

Frostbite Race, East Lothian Yacht Club

Despite the damage to North Berwick Harbour and dinghy park caused by the sea in last month’s storm surge, it was business as usual when East Lothian Yacht Club held its annual Frostbite Race on January 2.

With a brisk 22-knot wind, 14 hardy souls turned out to compete in this popular race, which kick starts the 2013 sailing season and marks the beginning of the club’s Frostbite Series.

Competitors, whose dinghies were lucky enough to have escaped damage in the flood, were joined by those who had been less fortunate, but who sailed in some of the club’s Toppers instead. The race was won by Mike Alexander in a Phantom. In second place was Jim Sinclair and Ewan Rycroft in a Tasar, with Jim Wilcox and his Laser coming in third.
