East Lothian bowlers book Ayr places
The District Finals of the Scottish National Championships were played at Haddington Bowling Club and a large crowd was entertained to some excellent bowling as the drama unfolded in the six matches.
The singles final between Jim Pringle, Aberlady, and Tranent's Alan Young was as tight a game as everyone had expected.
As the light began to fade Jim scored the decisive single to go through 21-16 and book his place at Ayr after a marathon 29 ends.
Davie Middleton and Shaun Tuite from North Berwick held a 9-0 lead after eight ends over Castlepark pair Brian Bird and Raymond Frame.
But two singles on the last two ends saw Brian and Raymond book the pairs berth at Ayr.
Defeated
The triples final between West Barns and Cockenzie & Port Seton saw victory for the latter.
In the fours Jamie Higgins skipped the winning Tranent rink, which included David Whitson, Brian Hoggan, and Jamie Gordon, to victory against Alan Morgan's rink from Castlepark.
The Junior Singles final was won by Derek Oliver from Cockenzie and Port Seton who defeated Calum Gordon of West Barns 21-16 to return to Ayr where he had a semi final appearance last year.
The senior fours between West Barns and East Linton saw Gordon Good, Ron Watson, Ian Knox and Alister Kennedy from West Barns go through by a single shot 14-13.
