East Fortune heralds new motor bike racing season

The 2010 motorcycle racing season kicks off at East Fortune race circuit this weekend, when the Melville Club hosts two rounds of the Scottish Championship. Roaring into action will be a huge number of motorcycles and sidecars, in what promises to be a packed race programme.

County racers taking to the tarmac include Haddington's David Wrinn, Stuart Clark, Mark Leonard and Colvin Denholm, Roddy Hutchison from Dunbar and John McFarlane from Prestonpans.

Grant Campbell from Tranent is back in the 600 Superstock class, whilst brother Bryan returns to the Scottish race scene, having spent four years in the British Superbike series. There is also a good quota of riders from the North East of England, together with riders from all over Scotland.

Premier

For the first time in the circuit's history, spectators will see a Harley Davidson XR1200 in the Formula Melville class, ridden by last year's Scottish Superstock champion, Torquil Paterson, so good battles should ensue between Paterson, George Spence on his Aprilia RS4 and East Linton's wheelie-king, Marti Brown!

Making its East Fortune debut, in the Premier class, will be a BMW 1000RR ridden by Loanhead's David Paton.

It will be interesting to see how well the bike does up against Danderhall's Michael Robertson, aboard his Suzuki GSXR1000. Robertson having picked up four wins from four races in round one of the Championship, at Knockhill, two weeks ago.

Moving

Racers under the age of sixteen in the Aprilia 125 class will benefit from free entries this year to encourage youngsters into the sport.

This group will be part of the new for 2010, Melville Academy. One of the quickest 125 girls of last year, Jodie Chalk, is moving up to the 600 class this season.

Bikes will be on circuit from 9am on both days, for what promises to be a packed weekend programme.

Saturday morning will be practice and qualifying with racing after lunch and on Sunday the racing commences from around 10.30am onwards.

Adult admission is 10, senior citizens and accompanied children under 16-years of age are admitted free of charge and the paddock is open for everyone.
