East Lothian Swim Team journeyed to Inverness last weekend to take part in the North District Grand Prix.
The Grand Prix are a series of elite competitions designed to raise the level of competition and performance in Scotland prior to the Commonwealth Games in 2014. ELST’s swimmers excelled at the event and every member of the squad claimed new PBs across the weekend.
The squad competed hard and left the meet with 11 medals – one gold, six silver and four bronze. Of particular mention is Anna Balfour who turned in an incredible performance in her first appearance at a Grand Prix meet to claim a new 11-year-old girls’ Scottish record, 37.07s, in the 50m breaststroke.
The senior swimmers showed the benefits of their training. Gillian Clark put in a commanding performance to claim the gold for the women’s 200m freestyle in a time of 2.00.48, an incredibly impressive time. Gillian also grabbed silvers in 50m, 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly events to make a great weekend’s haul.
