The strong East Lothian IBC pairing of Jamie Higgins and Derek Oliver enter the New Year with high hopes of once again giving an excellent account of themselves in the Scottish 4 Bowl Pair championships which take centre stage this weekend at various venues across the country.

The county champions, who were national runners-up in 2011, are in action at Whiteinch IBC tomorrow (Saturday) and face a preliminary round confrontation with a pairing from Coatbridge on the 9.30am session. Yvonne Veitch and current gents singles champion Dougie Berwick will be the representatives in the mixed pairs after they held most of the aces to beat Norma Bauld and Stevie Clark 23-17 in the final.
