Deadline approaches for fastest marathon

ORGANISERS of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival - which sees thousands of runners pounding the streets of East Lothian - are expecting a record entry for next year’s event.

They believe the success of this year’s 10th anniversary race has inspired even more people to sign up to take part in the full marathon, finishing in Musselburgh.

The Edinburgh Marathon will be joining the world’s elite road races by becoming the first in Scotland to be officially recognised by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), athletics’ governing body.

This has also sparked a rush of entries, meaning places for the full marathon will close on or before the end of December 31.

Race organiser, Neil Kilgour, said: “I believe we have the fastest route in Europe and maybe the world. This is proven year in year out in the times achieved. If you’re looking to get a personal best time then Edinburgh is the place to be.”
