Bowlers win Scottish Cup
The Scottish Cup is back in East Lothian and nestling in the trophy cabinet at Meadowmill stadium for the third time in five years after a hard fought 79-66 victory over Aberdeen at Prestwick IBC.
Aberdeen were far from pushovers, however, having made their presence felt by inflicting defeats on the rinks skipped by Graham Robertson and Derek Oliver albeit too slight and last gasp to tip the scales their way.
The garden county had two greater heroes in the shape of Alex Marshall and Scott Kennedy who conquered their respective Dons opposition and stiffened the resolve of their own colleagues with strong second half displays.

"We knew this would be tough because Aberdeen have caused us major problems in the past and they did test us on this occasion by leading over the first phase of the game but we were up cup and are over the moon at winning it again," said victorious team captain James Hogg.
Marshall was the star of the show as he contributed the best score of the final having skipped Malcolm Higgenbotham, Stevie Thomson and Andrew Jeffrey to a 22-11 success over Stephen Thomson.
Conceded
Kennedy was forced to work harder for his success having trailed Mike Stephen 16-12 before setting his rink of Lessel Middler, John Stevenson and James Hogg alight by winning five consecutive ends to turn the tables and win 23-18.
Robertson and his rink of Mark Johnston, David Oliver and Brian Wyllie were always giving as good as they got but conceded a single at the last end to be pipped 19-18 by Derek McNicol while Colin Cook, Dougie Berwick, Jamie Higgins and Oliver looked on course for a healthy win when leading 16-12 with only four ends to play but failed to win any of the remaining ends and gave 18-16 best to Kevin Pirie.

The Division 1 play-off final was also down for decision on Monday evening and it was a good night for John Hamilton's rink after they stormed to victory over the ladies rink skipped by Morag Wood.
Midlothian inscribed their name on the Jock Brodie Senior Challenge Cup after a surprisingly easy 10-0 points victory over East Lothian A in last Wednesday's grand final at Meadowmill stadium.
The Dalkeith side posted comfortable wins on all three rinks to run out easy winners to complete a miserable season for the garden county 'auld yins'. During the course of the tournament club member Jessie Gray organised a raffle that eventually raised 955 for club funds. The club would like to thank Jessie for her tremendous efforts and also tournament sponsors Norman T Craig and Co-operative Funeral Care for their continued support.
The East Lothian duo of Paul Foster and Alex Marshall are heading north this weekend as they bid to make a successful defence of their Fraserburgh IBC International Pairs title. Willie Wood will also be in action at the event as he teams up with Midlothian icon Davie Peacock.
Its congratulations to the ladies from Gifford Bowling Club after they won the prestigious East Lothian IBC Ladies Top Club tournament last Saturday, beating Willowbrae in the final.
