Blair’s win sets up a badminton gold rush

Robert Blair’s gold medal win in Turkey just before Christmas heralded a succession of 14 gold and 10 silver medals to the county from the festive Lothian Restricted Tournaments held at Meadowbank Sports’ Centre, Edinburgh.

Blair and partner Tan Bin Shen took 23 minutes to beat unseeded Swedish pair Magnus Sahlberg and Mattias Wigardt.

Meanwhile, Mid and East,West Lothian and Edinburgh youngsters competed in U-11 to U-19 events over two days allowing players to participate in two Age Group Events should they so wish. Cameron Pike (Dunbar), competing at his first ever Lothian tournament won the U-11 boys’ doubles with Thomas Dunn (Longniddry) and won silver in the boys’ singles.
