Belters stake promotion claim
Olivebank, home to Musselburgh Athletic
Tranent Juniors were among the very few clubs who managed to escape the long list of weather postponements last Saturday due to the frost but they grabbed the opportunity at Foresters Park with both hands bouncing back to winning ways with a solid 3-1 victory over Falkirk Juniors to rejoin the leading pack this week in the East Region’s South League table, writes Striker.
In the process the Belters notched their 50th goal of the season watched by Dalkeith Thistle boss Willie Pearson whose team retain the No.1 position on goal difference by four goals ahead of second placed Falkirk who are just one goal better off than Tranent with all three teams on the 26 point mark but with the Thistle having played two fewer games.
Tranent and Falkirk both played their 14th league game of the season, the halfway point in the championship for them. And while Tranent would draw strength from that win they are idle this weekend with no official fixture but Falkirk return home to Grangemouth Stadium to entertain Pumpherston which looks to favour a home win while current No.1 Dalkeith will still be at home to visiting Blackburn United at King’s Park as most of the junior fixture list remains the same for the third week running due to weather postponements.
Emirates Scottish Junior Cup fifth round draw: Ashfield v Bonnyrigg Rose; Largs Thistle or Arniston Rangers v Kelty Hearts; Arthurlie v Bo’ness United; Auchinleck Talbot v St.Roch’s; Kilwinning Rangers v Larkhall or Bellshill; Cumnock or St Andrews v Kilbirnie or Troon; Kinnoull v Shotts Bon Accord; Lochee United or Pollok v Irvine Meadow.
