Edinburgh’s Lily Farnood was a double winner at the recent U-12 East Lothian Open Badminton Championships held at Meadowmill Sports Centre.

In the girls singles top seed Lily Farnood eased her way to the final where she was up against second seed Lauren Middleton (Dundee). It was a hard fought final with Lily coming through to take her first title 21/17.

In the girls doubles Lily and Lauren teamed up together where they dominated the event winning the final 21/11 against Stonehaven pair Catriona Holley and Eilidh Mitchell.

In the boys singles top seed Lloyd Holland (Glasgow) reached the final comfortably but there was an upset in the other half when second seed Ewan Mathieson (Aberlady) was 19/15 up in the semi final against Josh McKay (Stonehaven)but eventually lost out to 21/19. In the final it was a close fought match with Holland coming through to take the title 21/18.

There was some local success in the boy’s doubles when Ewan Mathieson and James Morgan (Aberlady) won a thrilling boys doubles final 23/21 against Josh McKay and Adam Pringle (Giffnock).
