Haddington’s Hannah Laing was part of the Scotland U19 badminton team which turned in an impressive display at the Northumberland Junior Tournament held at the Leisure Centre in North Shields recently

Although they failed to lift any individual titles the Scottish players completed a superb hat-trick by winning the team event for the third consecutive year. They beat Swedish teams Tabby and Malmo 4 – 1 then won the deciding contest against a young English team 3 – 2 with Josh Neil (Prestwick) winning his singles in straight games before teaming up with Adam Hall (Mauchline) to take the doubles.

Edinburgh College Sports Academy student Hannah Laing and Julie MacPherson (Edinburgh) won a close doubles 22/20 21/16 and finished the day as the only undefeated players having won all three matches in the team event.
