Ali and Niall celebrate Scots call-up

As another successful season draws to a close, two of the junior coaches at North Berwick Basketball Club have extra reason to celebrate.

Ali Mackay and Niall Mackle have both been selected to represent Scotland at Under 18 and Under 16/17 age groups respectively.

This season the club entered two teams in the East Lothian U-12 League and took first and third place.

Many of the club players were also selected for the East Lothian teams that competed in the Scottish Schools tournament with the boys' team winning the whole tournament.

The club members also contributed to the success of Law Primary in winning the Lothian Schools tournament earlier this month.

The club celebrated the end of the season with a fun tournament and the annual prize giving.

Head coach Marie Caie said: "It is fantastic to see the children progress through the club from Primary 5 and to have the older players come back and help teach the younger kids is an excellent example for all our budding basketball players.

"We have developed strong links with the High School and many of our players continue their basketball there after they move on from our club.

"Whilst our main aim is that the children should enjoy playing basketball and have fun, we are also very proud to count Scotland national players as our past members."

As part of the club's commitment to basketball development in East Lothian they are running a four week 'taster' session for P4 children to introduce them to basketball in the hope that they will then go on to join the club when they are eligible in Primary 5.
