Dalziel 10
Preston Lodge 18
Preston Lodge were crowned Scottish Bowl Champions at Murrayfield on Saturday May 3 after putting on a terrific performance in both defence and attack to beat a talented and lively Dalziel side by 18 points to 10.

The dramatic day started at 8.30
am when the squad of 22 players plus coaching and backup staff left The Pennypit to travel to the Murrayfield Hotel where a conference room had been booked for final team talks and preparations.

On arrival at the National Stadium, the players had just enough time to chat with families and friends before final warm up on the back pitch and then it was straight onto the international pitch for kick off at 12.15.

Extended

Prop Cameron McLean crashed through tackles from five metres before reaching out to touch down on the line to give PL the lead. Patterson added the conversion.

Next, a kick from 30m straight in front of the posts was made to look easy by the cool headed Patterson as he extended the lead to 10-0.

A Simpson penalty made it 10-3 before Chris Dixon who made no mistake from close range to score PL's second try of the afternoon and extend the lead to 15-3.

Patterson increased PL's lead with a dropped goal but Dalziel got a try through Czarnocki then Simpson added the extremely difficult conversion to set up a tense final eight minutes.

Three-page special on Preston Lodge at Murrayfield appears in the East Lothian News, May 9, 2008
