Alex Marshall MBE completed another amazing chapter in his bowling career when he retained the Potters Holidays World Indoor Singles title at the Great Yarmouth resort, taking back-to-back titles for the second time in six years and becoming the first player to take the title for a fifth time – now two ahead of his nearest rivals.
The 40-year-old from Tranent completely outplayed from start to finish Devon Destroyer Ian Bond in the final to seal a 10-2, 11-5 victory and pocket the £30,000 prize purse for his efforts.

Looking comfortable and relaxed, 'Tattie' (Marshall) couldn't have asked for a better start, scoring three shots on the opening end, followed by three singles to go 6-0 ahead, before Bond made a mark on the card with a single.

However, he only bothered the marker on one more occasion, before the score was out of his reach.

Clenched

It didn't get any better for the Englishman in the second, with Marshall continuing to stamp his authority on the match and virtually putting the title beyond any doubt when he went 9-2 ahead after just six ends of the second.

From there on he just had to stay focused and patient and was afforded the luxury of playing covering shots to deter any chance of a comeback from Bond, with Marshall eventually raising two clenched fists into the air after Bond could only score a single of the tenth to leave him mathematically out of reach.

A delighted but remarkably cool and relaxed Marshall admitted: "To be honest, Bondie had a lot of bad luck at times.

Chance

"Any time he looked like getting something it went the wrong way and that made a massive difference and although I played really well, the score doesn't quite give a true reflection of the game.

"I played the two forehands for most of the game and was getting in first all the time and never gave him a chance to get in.

"I was totally focused and getting a good start helped me relax a lot."
