Archerfield Links assistant professional Lee Harper may have won the Scottish regional qualifier for next week's Powerade PGA Assistants' Championship in association with FootJoy, at The London Club but his chances of victory in the competition proper have been hit by injury.
The 26-year-old suffered a wrist injury in early July and has been unable to practise properly since.

However, he is determined not to let it scupper his chances of a decent showing at the championship, which begins on Wednesday, August 13.

"I
'm really struggling just now," he admitted.

"I've had this wrist problem since the start of July and in hindsight I should have pulled out of the event before now.

Competition

"It's a real shame because I was playing really well and was in great form but the doctors told me to take eight weeks off.

"So the last time I practised was in June, although I played quite a bit in July but didn't make any cuts — I'll give it my best shot."

Harper conceded that his aims for the competition are not that high but is looking forward to it nonetheless.

"In terms of expectations, we'll just have to see how it goes," he said.

Bother

"I've played the course about 10 times before so I know it quite well.

"It's a great course and I'm really looking forward to giving it a go, but my expectations are not very high.

"Hopefully I'll have enough in the tank to get up in the mix. If it was any other tournament I probably wouldn't bother but I'm going to give it a go."

Also taking part are Kenny Glen, Royal Musselburgh and Neil Fenwick, Dunbar.
