East Lothian ace Paul Foster will be crowned the new world No.1 on the World Bowls Tour rankings at the end of this week's Welsh International Open in Swansea – the last ranking event of the season.
Foster trailed newly crowned world indoor singles champion Greg Harlow by one point going into this week's event, but a shock defeat for Harlow from Israel unknown Zvika Hadar left the door open for Foster and he duly obliged with an opening round victory over Scottish qualifier Gary Hutchison, leaving him in an uncatchable position at the top of the rankings.
Foster's opponent in Wednesday's second round action was No.13 seed Ian Bond of England.
Foster's East Lothian clubmate Alex Marshall also marched through to the second round after coming back from a set down to beat well known BBC bowls commentator David Corkill 4-9, 8-6, 2-0.
