East Lothian’s MSP Iain Gray has called on government ministers to reject plans for 140 new houses planned for farmland at North Berwick.
East Lothian Council refused planning permission for the residential scheme at Ferrygate at the entrance to the town, but developer Miller Homes is now appealing to the Scottish Government to overturn the decision.
Mr Gray is backing a local protest campaign against the proposed housing at Dirleton Road. Members feel North Berwick has taken its fair share of new-build with Cala’s development of 120 houses at Gilsland and a further 420 earmarked for New Mains Farm.
