A keen boatman in East Lothian, who rescued a kayaker last year near Dunbar, has died suddenly at his home.

Brian Ball (58) fished regularly off the coast from Musselburgh and also made his 15-foot boat, Dignity, available for pleasure trips.

He was found dead at his house in Mayfield, Dalkeith, on Thursday last week.

Mr Ball was praised for his quick-thinking and bravery last October when people on the shore spotted a kayaker in difficulty just off Skateraw Old Harbour.
