A North Berwick minister was treated to a surprise celebration by the congregation to mark his 10 years in the post.
It was while Rev Neil Dougall of St Andrew Blackadder Church was away on holiday in July that Session Clerk, Niki Mackenzie, hatched the plan.
Before the service on Sunday, he was thanked for his decade in office and presented with cards signed by kirk members. Mr Dougall’s wife Helen received flowers in recognition of her “wonderful support” to him over the past 10 years.
A parishioner said: “Neil was genuinely surprised and was almost lost for words. He made a very gracious speech, thanking everyone for giving him the privilege to be their minister for 10 years. Then the young people from Klash, the Sunday School, sang a song of thanks and encouragement to Neil.”
Everyone enjoyed cakes, coffee and tea, prepared by the ladies of the Guild.
