A stark warning has been issued after a family with a dog were marooned at a Dunbar beauty spot on Saturday.
As darkness fell at 4.30pm, people on the shore at Belhaven saw them waving for help after the high tide cut them off on ‘Sandy Hirst’ at the Tyne Estuary.
The stranded group used torches on mobile phones to guide the Dunbar lifeboat crew to where they were trapped.
The mum, dad and their two children, and the dog, were ferried to safety on the shore.
A woman was also helped by the lifeboat crew after she fell near Pease Bay (pictured).
