Fisherrow Harbour could become the “gateway to the East Lothian coast” as part of a new vision for Musselburgh’s waterfront.
A public consultation exercise carried out by the Fisherrow Waterfront Group has identified “general support” for proposals to upgrade the harbour area.
The group – comprising local residents, harbour users and council officials – now hopes to use the backing as the basis for securing funds to develop a full design proposal.
Chairman Clive Andrew said: “The most striking result from the survey was that 80 per cent of respondents felt that the area in question could be better used – confirming for the group our decision to focus on this part of the waterfront area at present.”
He added: “This exercise represents the beginning of what could be a very long process. We wanted to discover if there was general support from the local community to improve this area and begin developing a long-term vision for the space that would make it an even greater asset for the community.”
