A Tranent man chased after his neighbour with a dog lead after being criticised about the way he looked after his pet, Haddington Sheriff Court heard last week.

Appearing before Sheriff Peter Braid on Wednesday, Richard Robertson (24), 3 Faside Crescent, narrowly avoided a jail sentence.

Instead, he will have to carry out 225 hours of unpaid work within the next nine months as part of a community payback order.

He was also ordered to take part in offender supervision to help him manage impulsive behaviour.

Robertson had previously admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at the rear of 4 Faside Road, Tranent, on January 23.

He admitted shouting, swearing, making threats of violence, repeatedly banging on a door, brandishing a dog lead and pursuing Scott O’Brien while swing the lead.
