Tranent benefits cheat failed to declare husband

A Tranent benefits cheat claimed more than £1000 to which she was not entitled after failing to inform the
authorities she had married.

Linda Hickie claimed £1200 in support despite not declaring her husband’s earnings.

Hickie, 13 De Quincy Walk, appeared at Haddington Sheriff Court earlier this year and had her sentence deferred for her to be of good behaviour and for a repayment plan to be put into action.

On Wednesday, the court was told Hickie was currently paying back £15 per week to a debt recovery agency after the Department of Work and Pensions and East Lothian Council had passed the debt on to them.

Full story and more from Haddington Sheriff Court in this week’s East Lothian News, on sale now.
