Trail plan to bring historic East Lothian battle to life

Have your say

The Musselburgh-based Pinkie Cleugh Battlefield Group has secured funding to create a countryside Battlefield Trail between Inveresk and Wallyford.

The £10,000 grant is one of the first in the UK to be awarded under the new Heritage Lottery Fund All Our Stories programme, launched earlier this year in support of BBC Two’s The Great British Story.

Community groups are being encouraged to carry out activities that help people explore, share and celebrate their local heritage.

Pinkie Cleugh Battlefield Group was set up by local organisations, including Musselburgh Conservation Society, the Old Musselburgh Club and Wallyford Community Council, to raise the profile of the neglected battle.

The biggest battle ever fought on Scottish soil, Pinkie Cleugh 1547 was the last between the separate kingdoms of England and Scotland.
