Police in East Lothian are appealing for witnesses after a 16 year old boy was slashed in Prestonpans yesterday about 1.10pm (15th January).

The teenager was walking home for lunch through the lane between Preston Lodge Park and Nethershott Road.

He was approached by a man and asked for the time. As the victim was checking the time on his phone, the suspect slashed the right side of the victim’s face with a sharp implement. The suspect then ran in the direction of Preston Lodge High School.

Officers are now keen to trace anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have information that can assist with their enquiries.

The suspect is described as white, between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8in, between the age of 18 to 25 years old, thin build, clean shaven, local accent and wearing a purple New York Yankees baseball cap, black hooded top with a white logo on the front, grey cotton joggers.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a teenage boy, who was left distressed by the incident and with a one inch wound that required stitches.

“Anyone who recognises the description of the suspect or has any other information relevant to this investigation is asked to come forward.”
