On January 17 a residential property in Gardiner Terrace, Prestonpans, was broken into and local officers had been conducting enquiries to identify whoever was responsible.

As a result, a 15-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday, February 13.

He will now be reported to the Children’s Reporter.

Chief Inspector Colin Brown, Local Area Commander for East Lothian, said: “We will continue to carry out Operation RAC enforcement activity to send a clear message to housebreakers in East Lothian that their actions will not be tolerated.

“Regardless of when a crime is committed, we will investigate it thoroughly to bring those responsible to justice.

“If you witness a housebreaking taking place or notice any suspicious activity around a home or business property then please contact police immediately.

“Similarly, if you would like your local policing team to provide crime prevention advice on to protect your belongings then call Police Scotland on 101 or visit your local police station.”
