National Museums Scotland has appointed Steve McLean (46) as general manager at the National Museum of Flight at East Fortune.
He joins the visitor attraction following 21 years in management roles at Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums.
Latterly, he was responsible for the management of the organisation’s Discovery Museum, the Hatton Gallery and the Great North Museum where he project-managed the £26 million development of the attraction, which received more than 850,000 visitors in its first year.
Mr McLean from Dundee studied geology at the University of Aberdeen and museum studies at the University of Leicester, and then spent a year as a volunteer for National Museums Scotland, working on an excavation project at East Kirkton, Bathgate.
