A serving soldier based at barracks in Edinburgh has appeared in court charged with possessing live ammunition in a residential area of Musselburgh.

Paul Pattie appeared from custody at Haddington Sheriff Court last Wednesday, when the case against him was continued without plea until later this month to allow enquiries to be made into his mental state.

Pattie (36), whose address was given as Dreghorn Barracks, Redford Road, is accused under section 1 of the Firearms (Amendment) Act of possessing ammunition, without holding a firearms certificate in force at the time.

He is alleged to have had live rounds, drill rounds, marker rounds and a 50 calibre round while in Stoneybank Grove on November 29.

Sheriff Peter Braid agreed to continue the case for the investigation of mental health issues at the request of Pattie’s solicitor. The accused was granted bail and told to return to court on December 30.
