A teenager who pestered two women by repeatedly asking one to have sex with him and attempting to expose himself to the other has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
Ryan Hood, 1 Sanderson’s Grove, Tranent, previously pled guilty to the charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by approaching a woman and repeatedly asking her to have sex with him on February 3, 2013, at Sanderson’s Wynd, Tranent.
Hood (19) also admitted to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner in that he approached a second woman, repeatedly uttered sexual remarks towards her and attempted to expose his penis on November 28, 2012, at Eskmills Industrial Estate, Musselburgh. Sentence was initially deferred for Hood to appear in person and for him to receive legal representation.
Defence agent Mary Moultrie told Haddington Sheriff Court on Wednesday last week that her client “accepted his culpability” for the offences and that he was “lacking in confidence and self-esteem”. She added: “At the time of committing the offences he had little concept of the gravity of their nature or the impact this would have on the complainers.
“The behaviour appears to stem from him informing his behaviour of forming any kind of intimacy on the basis of online pornography. Clearly a misguided perception was formed through that and I suggest that is an area where supervision could be of assistance.”
Sheriff Peter Braid ordered Hood to be placed on a three-year Offenders Supervision Requirement in a bid to promote his rehabilitation, and on a Conduct Requirement.
Sheriff Braid also placed the teenager on the Sex Offenders Register for three years.
