The finishing line in Musselburgh will hold special meaning for runner Billy Morrison as he bids to complete this year’s Edinburgh Marathon.

Billy is taking part in Sunday’s race in memory of his friend Steven Slater, whose sudden death in March shocked the local community and left family and friends devastated.

A former Hearts player, 25-year-old Steven had also played for Musselburgh Grammar and Musselburgh Windsor Football Club, whose home games were played in the finishing area at Pinkie Playing Fields.

With the backing of Steven’s father Andy and brother Michael, Billy will wear a T-shirt bearing a photograph of his friend.

He also hopes to raise £500 for Marie Curie Cancer Care, a charity chosen by the family in memory of Steven’s mother Margaret.
