Six executives at East Lothian Council received remuneration of more than £100,000 in 2012-13, according to statistics gathered by the Taxpayers’ Alliance.

The organisation – which is seeking full transparency in the spending of tax money – has highlighted the salaries of top council employees in its annual Town Hall Rich List.

It argues that UK local authorities should be showing greater constraints on such pay-outs, particularly during harsh economic times.
