Rail action group sets out its stall

Have your say

Rail watchdogs in East Lothian are meeting the five bidders for the new ScotRail franchise due to start in April 2015.

Abellio, Arriva, First Group, MTR of Hong Kong and National Express are currently preparing their cases. The Rail Action Group, East of Scotland, (RAGES) recently met a representative from National Express and has also held discussions with Abellio.

RAGES members laid out their wish-list, which included a call for a service from Edinburgh to Berwick. They noted the new bus link from Haddington to Wallyford, but their aim is still to have the rail link to Haddington reopened.

Car parking, they explained, was not only a problem at Dunbar but also at other stations on the North Berwick route.

Covered cycle racks were needed at Dunbar as they were well used.

The bidders are being asked for better access to Dunbar station for cyclists and more space on trains for bicycles, surf boards, prams and buggies.

Help with the building costs of East Linton and Reston stations was also suggested by the action group.
