East Lothian Council’s chief executive has backed calls for Musselburgh Racecourse to abide by the same planning rules as everyone else.
Community councillors in the town wrote to the racecourse last month, seeking clarification of its future plans on behalf of concerned neighbours.
A letter was also sent to East Lothian Council demanding an end to unauthorised development on the site.
It followed a string of retrospective planning applications for work on the track and buildings – prompting fears that a controversial all-weather track proposal could be resurrected and pushed in through the back door.
Chief executive Angela Leitch has since raised the issue with racecourse management. She told the News: “The community council raised concerns regarding a number of retrospective planning applications.
“This has been discussed with Musselburgh Joint Racing Committee and the importance of following planning procedures and timescales has been reinforced.”
